We’re giving tray activities another try.
We tried it before but really had a hard time with
getting out one at a time and putting it back when finished.
Then I had a tough pregnancy and baby sissy came and
I didn’t have the time/energy to keep trying to work on it
so I put all the activities up in a cabinet and pulled them out myself one at a time.
Bam Bam recently started attending a Montessori Preschool
three days a week,
three days a week,
He now comes home and asks for activities more often.
He is doing tons better with the one at a time and
clean up after parts as well.
clean up after parts as well.
Butterfly is getting older and I’d really like to have basic craft supplies
and a few activities out for them to explore more independently.
I’m still working on getting a shelf set up to display the trays
but I did create some fall themed activities.
Here is what I gathered with supplies from around the house,
the Target Dollar Spot
the Target Dollar Spot
as well as the Dollar Tree Store.
Candy Corn Game
We don’t play by the “rules” we just practice our fine motor skills.
Tonging acorns
Sorting leaves by shape/color
Sorting acorns by color
Open put one item in and close it back.
Bam Bam had a little trouble at first with opening the compartments
but he was determined and seems to really enjoy this activity,
but he was determined and seems to really enjoy this activity,
he has played with this one for the longest so far
Put one leaf or pumpkin in each spot.
I tried to throw in a little ABAB pattern work,
Bam Bam hasn’t caught on to that part well yet
Spoon one pumpkin into each slot.
He does seem to grasp the one item per slot idea
but with this one he really enjoyed filling the ice tray pumpkins up with the tiny pumpkins.
He just kept giggling and giggling.
Pumpkin Spice Playdoh with goodies
(staws, pipe cleaners, cookie cutters)
Pumpkins on a vine
I've also printed some pumpkin, fall, leaves themed printable games.
In the past he hasn't gotten into much 'paper work"
so I tried to keep it to more movable pieces and games...
we'll see how it goes.
I’d like to do much better at keeping Bam Bam
busy/engaged on the days
busy/engaged on the days
he’s at home with me and in the afternoons after school
with similar activities that he has at school.
We seem to have much harder days when I hope/expect
for him to mostly entertain himself with his
vast toy collection in our play room.
for him to mostly entertain himself with his
vast toy collection in our play room.
To often he is more interested in getting in to trouble…
I mean I don’t think that’s his plan,
but left to explore his own ideas for to long
but left to explore his own ideas for to long
seems to always involved a big BIG mess
I prefer to clean up more controlled/planned messes
so I need to stay ahead of the game and not
following behind cleaning up eggs and milk from the floor….
:-)
So head out to Target if you have one near by,
pick up some table scatter and ice cube trays,
and have some learning fun with your kiddos.
More pictures of our Fall Trays in action coming soon.

Great ideas! Thank you for your post!
ReplyDeleteAlso, if you don't mind me asking, where did you find these beautiful acorns and matching pails?
Thank you in advance.
Hey Ms Tanya thanks for stopping by and taking a moment to comment!!
DeleteI picked up both the acorns and the pails in matching colors at my local Target Store in the section they call the Dollar Spot. Hope this helps :-)
Thank you so much for your answer. Our Target's Dollar Spot doesn't have them. :(
DeleteThanks again for your blog.
I'll have to stop by my local Target, too!
ReplyDeleteCool! I hope you find some good stuffs :-)

I'm going to check out Target, as well. I love the candy corn peg game. Great tray ideas, mama! I laughed when I saw the naughty pic of your guy coloring himself. My son thinks painting/coloring himself is part of the project!
ReplyDeleteThat game came from Target it was a buck! yep just one dollar and kept my Bam Bam occupied (and not coloring on himself) for a good 20-30 minutes..YAY!! :-)

Great activities and ideas!
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing...
ReplyDeleteWow! Your trays are so beautiful and color-coordinated! When my kiddos were little, it was all I could do to throw together a muffin tin and some acorns!
